LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas man who had been spurned by a female co-worker and suspended from his bartending job opened fire with a shotgun inside his former workplace, blasting through doors as he chased people into an adjacent office before abruptly dropping the weapon and surrendering to police, according to police accounts and records made public Friday.

“Do we have a (expletive) problem here?” the gunman is reported to have said as he opened fire with a pump-action Mossberg shotgun inside Bomas Bar & Grill.

Three people were wounded, one critically, but no one was killed during the chillingly methodical Thursday afternoon attack, according to a police report made public following the arrest of James Keck, 42.

Keck was held Friday at the Clark County jail pending a Monday court appearance on multiple felony charges including attempted murder and assault with a weapon. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Police said Keck left threatening voice messages for the 30-year-old woman who rejected his date requests, called her earlier in the day threatening to kill her. A witness later told police that as Keck entered the bar, he walked straight toward the woman.

“It was not random,” Las Vegas police Sgt. Jay Roberts said after investigators reviewed surveillance videos and spoke with witnesses who said the gunman pursued the woman through the bar. The woman was wounded in the hand as she fled out the back door of the bar and took cover behind a trash bin.

“He was looking for the victim who was known to him,” Roberts said.

Videos were impounded as evidence and would not be made public, police Officer Laura Meltzer said.

A 50-year-old woman was wounded in the chest by a shotgun blast through a closed door in the office next door, police said. She remained in critical but stable condition Friday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Roberts said.

A 60-year-old woman suffered an arm wound as she tried to shield the woman in the bar during the initial volley of shotgun blasts, police said.

Roberts said the first patrol officer to arrive at the chaotic scene saw the gunman reloading outside the separate bar administrative office, where a glass front door was shattered and gunfire erupted with five women hiding inside. One woman tended to the severely wounded woman while the others hid behind a steel vault door.

Roberts credited the officer, whom he did not name, with waiting until more police arrived before approaching the office.

“We might have had another victim,” Roberts told reporters Friday.

Keck tossed the shotgun out the front door of the office, BEK Gaming, and walked out with his hands in the air.
